last saturday, i taught my healing & identity-exploring poetry workshop at spirit holistic center in boyertown near studio b and the grill shop in celebrating national poetry month. we may collaborate in hosting the workshop again in the next few months—and possibly my moon poems workshop, too. keep your eyes peeled for news on that.

thanks go to this young lily-lady niece of nikole ackley, age 7, for assisting with photography through a few of these pictures.

march 24, 2018: a goodbye to zern's family pizza in gilbertsville.

the second to last weekend in march of 2018 marked the final pizza slices to be cooked in the oven at zern's family pizza at zern's farmers' market in gilbertsville. it opened in the 1950s, and people from out of state had often heard of this boardwalk style of pizza for sale in southeastern pennsylvania just on friday and saturday nights.
cathy baldwin worked there as a teenager and told herself she'd one day own it. she did, for more than a decade, and prepped pizzas there on weekends for more than 40 years in her days.
below are some eye-scenes of the last day zern's family pizza knew its grateful and plenty hungry customers. also included at the bottom is a pizza slice-shaped poem by my niece; mind the somber aspects. her sadness is understandable. we all loved zern's family pizza and will greatly miss it but are glad to pay tribute to it now.

traveling poetry classes in april 2018: a lil' bit of celebrating national poetry month by water & rocks.

ahem. hurrahhhhh for april. we'll be celebrating national poetry month in my traveling poetry class. this will involve two water-and-rocks-loving excursions: a trip to st. peter's villlage in chester county and a return to our cherished hideaway spot along the schuylkill river in pottstown, and hopefully it'll be warm and sunny after this snowy march. that's a very serious hopefully.

any topics of creative writing are welcome for sharing and workshopping during class by those who attend, but we have inspirational topics as prompt ideas, too. please bring a few copies to share with other students, if you can, for anything you write and want to practice reading as well as discussing. but just having your original copy to read from is okay, if that's easier for the writer.

next classes–

when: sunday, april 15 @ 1 p.m. & sunday, april 29 at @ 1 p.m.

where: for april 15, (before heading to the rocks) the parking lot across the street the inn at st. peter's village at 3471 st. peters road,  st. peter's, pa 19470 or elverson, pa 19520 depending on the maps site you use or your GPS unit; for april 29, (prior to riverside moments) the parking lot of 140 college drive, pottstown, pa 19464

optional themes of focus:

    sunday, april 15–nayyirah waheed poems*
    sunday, april 29–river poems

*i'll also be teaching a free poetry-collaging workshop at culture den in st. peter's village this same day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. more news will be posted on that event soon.

cost: $20 per student, per class (we usually meet for 2 hours or more)

if we ever have oddly inconvenient weather around the time of classes, i will update those who RSVPed to classes in advance to let them know if we are canceling, rescheduling, or relocating.

if you have any questions, feel free to reach out via poetrywithjenniferhetrick at yahoo dot com.

and if you know anyone who may be interested in our class, feel free to share this blog content onward.

also, if there is anyone who may want to join our class but lives in another area across berks, chester, and montgomery counties, we sometimes travel to a good variety of different places, so let us know, and we can see about planning classes closer to you.

poetry-collaging in mid-march in my traveling poetry class.

here some eye-scenes of a great sunday afternoon a few days ago in my traveling poetry class at the dunkin' donuts in limerick when we ventured our way into poetry-collaging. this endeavor had the same theme as a workshop which i'll be teaching for the southeast branch of reading public library on saturday, april 28 at 1 p.m. to celebrate april as national poetry month.
some of us finished our collaging, and others of us took our work home to complete it. but we all admitted that we loved our two hours spent creating and tossing around conversation as we crafted. we may bring this back again to do every few months.
