the second to last weekend in march of 2018 marked the final pizza slices to be cooked in the oven at zern's family pizza at zern's farmers' market in gilbertsville. it opened in the 1950s, and people from out of state had often heard of this boardwalk style of pizza for sale in southeastern pennsylvania just on friday and saturday nights.
cathy baldwin worked there as a teenager and told herself she'd one day own it. she did, for more than a decade, and prepped pizzas there on weekends for more than 40 years in her days.
below are some eye-scenes of the last day zern's family pizza knew its grateful and plenty hungry customers. also included at the bottom is a pizza slice-shaped poem by my niece; mind the somber aspects. her sadness is understandable. we all loved zern's family pizza and will greatly miss it but are glad to pay tribute to it now.
