this past weekend in september, the pottstown pet fair graced the grassy stretch known as memorial park. many animal rescues were involved, as were some other nonprofits geared toward helping animals in need. and some businesses were a part of the event, too, like ones which sell gourmet food and treats for dogs as well as festive outfits and toys.
hetrick hardscaping, llc featured a dog patio bed area sample, which can be customized to best fit the circumstances of a family and its fur kid(s) in a backyard area. this is ideal for making sure dogs don't get too hot on the pavers of a patio in the heat of the sun but instead have a cooler place to rest while outside during the spring, summer, and autumn. a patio umbrella can be situated over the area to help with shade, too, but hardscaping can also be built up to allow for coverage from blazing rays.
local butterfly expert lois vedock did a lecture on butterflies and brought several samples of live monarachs from her own backyard, and hetrick hardscaping, llc had several perennials in place to show how to attract butterflies to garden space.
kittens and rabbits were a part of the day, too, and possibly some other critters which i didn't get a chance to see. we have a lot to learn from animals. my animal poems workshop for elementary schools and state parks is one way kids but also adults can reflect on why we're fortunate to have these creatures in our lives. you can never go overboard in appreciating the animals in your life too much. they bring us a unique brand of comfort and joy which is difficult to replicate in any other way, many might agree.
below is a haiku about the pottstown pet fair as well as sightings of some adorable-types.
flash of fur and paws—
footfalls in this autumn grass
where leaves will soon drop
